As a rider of the IC in he 50s and 60s I couldn't disagree more. To me the IC in that era was the gold standard of mainline commuter service--fast, frequent, intelligent mix of locals, expresses, specials. Too bad Daley got Interstate money to build the Dan Ryan and simultaneously bulldozed so much of the South Side. I digress.Still, high level platforms just seem the better idea. I was amazed when I moved to Philly in 65 to discover that PRR commuter trains were often low platform. |
