Not always.Romans called their dictator "Caesar", especially following the death of Gaius Julius C. (the longest dictator) and after the advent of Lex Antonius. Nobody liked the office, because the dictator had more powers than the king for the six-month period. Caesars had all the powers of a dictator, which was more than merely ironic. |
