Australia has diesel railcars capable of operating at 210 kph (approx. 130 mph) that operate out of Perth. Granted, that's no TGV or Shinkansen, but it's better than most of what we have now.http://www.spiritus-temporis.com/transwa-prospector/ They are nice trains. Put them on tracks capable of 130-mph service and you might have a good start in the midwest without electrification. |
