Metro was supposed to buy an additional 50 P2550's as an option to the original 50 car base order. 16 of those were to be for Expo (which already gets cars from the original order) and 34 of the cars were headed to the blue line. Someone mentioned on The Transit Coalition message board that this never happened and that Metro let the 50 car option order lapse. If so, the blue line will be stuck with the P865's for a while. And a few P2000's as well. I don't know that the gold line will be able to get rid of all of them. Will 50 cars be enough for Expo Phase 1, Phase 2, the Gold line, and the gold line extension? I don't see how. Expo by itself will likely need that many. |
