There was a large fire this morning in Hollywood at the intersection of Sunset and Vine. The Metro station is a couple of blocks away at Hollywood/Vine but in a surprising twist the Channel 5 news crew was very concerned about letting their viewers know whether or not the station remained open. Problem was they constantly referred to the subway as "Metrolink" instead of Metro. They must have said Metrolink over 20 times before finally interviewing a fire captain who let them know that the Metro station was still open. Before that one of them actually said something along the lines of:We're trying to get information regarding the Metrolink station. I know that this is a very busy station and is full of commuters using Metrolink from Inglewood that are headed to Hollywood and downtown. Ummm...neither Metrolink nor the subway go to Inglewood. People in LA are utterly clueless about our own mass transit, but at least they are aware that it's there and that people use it. That's a start. |
