I remember the name HYATT stamped on the axle support bearing assemblys of the R-21/22s and was able to find a great deal of interesting stuff on John Wesly Hyatt's contributions towards solving the old problems of hot, faulty, journals on equipment that preceded the SMEEs. It seems that the old codgers weren't ready to accept his ideas, a hundred years ago, and as a result, burning journals became the norm in freight yards and subways. |
