I grew up in an era when the storm doors were left open for the entire length of the train - and/or articulated cars still roamed the rails. It is very hard to give up that freedom of motion.Another problem is that they say you can move in the event of a critical situation such as being harassed, etc. That exception is very subjective. I find indoor temperatures above 70 degrees to be physically intolerable so if a car's air conditioner is not functioning at peak capacity I need to find one that is. Other people can take the heat or for that matter even like it... At least in the pre-a/c days I could open the windows wide open and stand next to an open storm door and let the wind blow in my face as the train ran... Even better were the railfan windows that had a sash that opened :-D |
