I don't think the term mall specifically applies only to indoor shopping centers. I have seen it to refer to Outlet Malls, etc, many times outside. And as someone else said, "Strip Mall" is used all the time.But yes, they are "usually" closed. Here's what freedictionary.com says: 1. A large, often enclosed shopping complex containing various stores, businesses, and restaurants usually accessible by common passageways. 2. A street lined with shops and closed to vehicles. 3. A shady public walk or promenade. 4. Chiefly Upstate New York See median strip. See Regional Note at neutral ground |
