In the same time period, the Baltimore MTA Administrator, Ron Hartman initiated a study of converting a bus line to ETB's (the new label for trolleybus). The reason was that the Feds were coming up with new rules for air pollution in urban areas.The study proposed converting the 19 - Harford Road line to ETB, as the line had an on-line garage and the two branches and express trips would remain worked by diesels and 45 ETB's would be obtained to for the Carney - State Center main line. The major cost would be the ETB's and the overhead wires and feeder system. The proposed pollution changes never occurred and Baltimore's return to the trolleybus died a stillborn death. |
