I don't think that anyone said that crashworthiness was a causal factor of either collision, but it could have greatly mitigated loss of life and injury in the event those trains had been carrying more passengers.The Shady Grove incident involved 3000 Series cars, not 1000 Series cars. The incident at Woodley Park was primarily due to human error, though the construction of the 1000 Series cars involved may have been a more significant issue had that train been in revenue service. The loss of life in both incidents would have been immense had those trains been even moderately loaded. The crash performance of those cars, as the telescoping demonstrated, resulted in horrific pictures. |
