The current Mott Avenue station was built by the NYCTA and opened on 2/21/58. Trains terminated at Wave Crest from 6/28/56 until that date to permit widening of the elevated structure to accommodate the new station. The original LIRR station on the elevated structure built in 1942 (not 1956) had low level platforms not suitable for rapid transit use. The LIRR built a new ground level station a few blocks east of the old one. The old station was torn down and the property sold to become a shopping center. "Change at Ozone Park" by Herbert George documents all this as do many past threads.
