Yes, there have been several installations on freight railroads where there existed a diamond crossing with a low-use short or industrial line. One example was on the Illinois Lincoln Corridor to enable 110mph speeds.

Typically diamond crossings are only good for 40mph speeds on the main track. This type of flange bearing diamond are good for the full linespeed at the expense of the crossing speed, which shrinks to 5-10mph.

On real railroads however the gap is much smaller than it is on this SEPTA crossing, usually just the width of the rail head and the flangeway.
