Let me start by saying I'm not at ALL impressed by Schvitzer ... but I personally knew the alternative and he would have been FAR worse. Folks already know what little I thought of Kalikow, but for now my own opinion of Hemmerdinger is that the jury's still out. FWIW, the state senate confirmed him earlier tonight so he's now "officially in."

Kalikow left dead bodies behind everywhere he went PRIOR to him phucking up the MTA. It would be interesting to see if anyone can find any episodes equivalent to Kalikow and the NY Post at the hands of Hemmerdinger. So far, none that I'm aware of. He's supposedly done a pretty good job at his prior commitments so for now, jury's out to my own mind.

Now I don't want to become an apostle of "Dr. Ron" but in all fairness, the CHAIRMAN of an agency doesn't concern themselves with the nuts and bolts, that's what the very next layer BELOW them in the chain are for. And it appears as though we're all agreed that Howard Roberts appears more than up to the task, reporting directly to Mr. Hemmerdinger for whatever knowledge or expertise is required with respect to the subways and what needs to be known for good decisions.

What Hemmerdinger is responsible for is subways, buses, commuter rail, roads, bridges, tunnels, property and FUNDING. Those who came to the defense of Kalikow have already made us aware of what Hemmerdinger's specific job is I hope ... that all said, yes - it was embarassing that he didn't know all the nuts and bolts - probably doesn't even RIDE the subways. I don't see that as a problem as long as Roberts is at the helm for the subways.

Let's give Hemmerdinger a major crisis or two to wade through and let's see if he earns his combat pay ... then, like Kalikow before him, we'll have something to actually MEASURE as far as whether he's fit for the job or not ... like I said ... so far, I haven't formed an opinion myself yet and certainly haven't because he said what he said. The way *I* look at it, he was HONEST about it. That's a REFRESHING start! :)
