The PRR gave designations to each class of locomotive based on its wheel configuration. Articulated locomotives were designated with double letters. Therefore, the GG1 was a 4-6-0+0-6-4 articulated locomotive. It's just a coincidence that the designer's initials were used as the locomotive's designation. |
