Funny thing . . . Infoplease.com gives the air distance between New York and Miami (in statute miles) as 1,092; whereas driving distance on Mapquest gives 1,297.30 miles.You could easily get an average speed of 180 mph out of an express trip, i.e. assuming you can get a high-speed dedicated railroad built through the megalopolis (built-up areas), but anything's possible if you follow the German model of building alongside highways. The 1,297-mile distance gets you a time of about 7 hours 12 minutes. |
