Consider, however, that MTA in-house lawyers aren't allowed to do trials. That could be a way of saving money, however, by having in-house legal staff defend the agency in court. However, in a bit of irony, many of the "improvements" made have caused more lawsuits, such as the slippery tiles (IINM, so bad that the MTA stopped using tiles in station renovations).

The mistakes under Conway and Kalikow are showing up now. The main solution operations-wise will require the union to accept painful cuts and job reductions, and while there is precedent for it in civil service, even with the MTA, I'm not sure if layoffs, particularly in MTA Bus, among union staff, can be avoided in the long run.
