Ahhh..now we get tot he root of the problem.I feel you..and EVERYTHING your saying... I can IDENTIFIY with that in the most intimate of ways..and Can agree. Your furstration comes from a perceived helplessness..wishing you could do SOMETHING to stop the madness. I understand more than you know. My father was black..and my mother was American Indian mixed with Southern white decent.So for me..it was hard to deal with the kids who just loved to walk over to you and say "HOW"![Mom like to wear Something "NATIVE" in her dress ALL THE TIME..]..or [this one will get you]"You SURE that YOUR MOTHER.."?]because she "LOOKED white",while all of us look "black". My parents taught us well,I figure..since none of us ever were "locked up" for anything stuipid..always stayed out of trouble..and were "God Fearing folk". What I can say is this..even though you may feel powerless about certain things..you don't have to be completely. You can give voice to your concerns by joining a group,a neighborhood watch..a church..or perhaps the BOY CLUB..to mentor a child. I do it..my son does it..and so does my daughter. We all do what we can to help..and if you can reach that ONE CHILD..to set him or her on the RIGHT PATH[doesn't matter black or white] then you will have accomplished SOMETHING. Don't let the worlds Ill's case a dark shadow on your out look on life. There's hope for everyone. |
