Life for Black and minority folk in New York City in the 1920's and 1930's was not some bed of roses - do not let the revisionists confuse you. Did you know that between the years 1900 to 1930, not a single new public school was built in Harlem?Of course it wasn't, but don't you understand that was NATIONAL, not just NY? That's what we needed the 60's for. That;s what we needed the laws of 1964 for. This is not Robert Moses, this was the era of the way SOCIETY thought back then. It's easy to say now, in the current time how things are now....but in the 20's and 30's they WEREN't like that. |
