This is similar to what I've brought up before:

Combining the M/V is one of several options that would make the V more attractive as a whole (and in doing so, making a combined train a 24/7 route where especially if it included a full-time FREE transfer to the G in Brooklyn where the lines). I would also look at making the V a third route over the Williamsburg Bridge, having it terminate at Myrtle Avenue running local in Brooklyn in the reverse peak direction and express in the peak direction during rush hours that would extend like they are on the 7, in this case including on weekends.

It's probably never occured to many people because the connector at Chrystie Street hasn't been used on a regular basis since the mid-'70s and last on a reroute in the early '80s, so most aren't likely aware its possible.

The shorter trains would not be that big of a deal here since V trains aren't that crowded to begin with, though one thing that could be considered is lengthening platforms to at least Myrtle Avenue to accomodate 10-car trains if that became necessary.
