The comment about duct tape was a joke. Obviously, you'll need more to repair this one, but it is important to note that the car wasn't running like this - there's normally a cover over this area that was removed in the shop. And as I said, despite appearances, the corrosion is on a non-structural piece and therefore essentially cosmetic. Path it up, clean it and put a new cover on it and you're all set. This one's got plenty of miles left.

As for the redbirds, you had holes through the sidewalls which can actually be a good thing in that it allows water coming in through the door pockets to drain quicker (especially if the existing drains are plugged - probably a problem on this R44). Like this R44, it doesn't look good, but as long as the posts and their connections to the underframe are not rusted out, then the car is ok.
