Agreed. Consider my previous response amended. However, I was comparing it to the El will only extended to 168th street.

Nonsense. Not a fire hazard at all. Rather nicely designed if anything.

Agreed that this could be better in terms of passenger capacity.

That's often touted here but the only factor you're looking at is capacity. The TA may have placed the switch where it is to reduce the noise inflicted on people on the platform. Since no one from the TA knowledgable about the specifics of the decision has ever posted here it's silly to conclude that we know all about the TA's "mistake."
