I can understand labour spanking Tony for being a bushman

The problem is Tony Blair's the main good thing about the Labour Party. The rest are largely incompetent (Stephen Byers style), evil (Gordon Brown style), or total non-entities (John McDonnell style).

but the disarray is saddening.

The problem there is that they've believed their own lies for too long. "Gordon Brown is the best Chancellor ever" = "he's been fiddling the figures for ten years, and hopefully we can find some way of blaming the Tories when the truth finally catches up with him". "Gordon Brown has saved us from Tory boom and bust" = "Gordon Brown has caused unprecedented economic stagnation in place of the boom".

David Cameron wasn't far from the mark when he said at PMQs "the prime minister seems to think the chancellor is Einstein, but half the backbenchers think he is Mrs Rochester". (This was in response to Labour backbencher Frank Field stating in an interview "Allowing Gordon Brown into No 10 would be like letting Mrs Rochester out of the attic").

Ultimately, if Labour elect Gordon Brown leader, I predict in all confidence that they will lose the next election. But will they realise in time to find someone else worth electing? I reckon the only realistic candidate is Jack Straw, the Lord Privy Seal and former Foreign Secretary - he certainly did himself no harm in getting sacked by the Americans.

But really, all I care about is that there is an election campaign between two realistic alternatives. Cameron's good, but I'd like a choice.

Shall we stuff and mount MAGGIE again (not necessarily in that order) to make the twits get the point?

Wasn't decapitation enough? Evidently not.
