Actually, no it's not a non-sequiter at all. Your problem is that you assume, being a railbuff, that everyone else is too.

The VAST MAJORITY of those people want a job with job security and good benefits. They know that this is what the TA offers. Some in the crowd resemble you, of course. But not nearly as many as you think.

As to your other comment, I suggest you look at retention rate first, then come back and post. People who post here are far more likely to be malcontents or railbuffs whose views (like yours) don't represent most TA employees.
