I've always wanted to take a revisionist history view of the man and his reach. Suppose that his power was very limited and that our past mayors and governors ignored his power brokering tactics. We can imagine: 1- No Jones Beach 2- Rapid transit on the Long Island Expressway 3- A much reduced higway system 4- A Cross Bronx Expressway that didn't tear the Tremont section in half. 5- Parkways with enough clearance for at least buses. And much more! Its a mixed bag IMO. |
