I've never understood the argument that Moses intentionally barred buses from the Parkways to keep blacks off Long Island. It isn't like the Parkways are the only roads there.That's because it's a manufactured claim. Buses weren't even at the point they are today in the 1930's, and were really in their infancy yet to replace trolleys. By the 50's buses had come of age, but that was later, after the parkways were3 built. And by the time it was realized that roads for buses and trucks were needed.....expressways were born....some parkways were even converted to expressways... |
