You're only adding to Edwards! argument that homes were destroyed needlessly. If a tunnel were built instead, you wouldn't have needed the portion of the BQE south of 65th Street. They could have widened the Belt by cutting into the park if they built a tunnel. As far as Third Avenue is concerned, are you saying that the old Gowanus Parkway did not destroy homes? That it was just placed on top of the el pillars to replace the el? I don't think you're correct. Even at 4 lanes, it would be wider than the el and there would have been some demolition. There would have been less disruption on Second Avenue because it was industrial, not commercial and residential. |
