If the URL is relatively short, it doesn’t matter whether you include it nor not. If it’s horrendously long, it appears that it can still cause problems, with reflow: according to what R36 #9346 reports in this post. Also, you might be interested to read the report he links to, which gives other reasons why URLs shouldn’t appear in text: they give screen readers indigestion. Not that we have any known Subchatters who need screenreaders yet, but we’re all getting older! If you believe, despite lots of effort to convince you that including the text of URLs doesn’t help a post** and can significantly impact its usability and readability, then please just post the link and the URL in a post by themselves. Put any comments in a separate post, so we can read them easily. **I could be wrong, but in the large number of threads posts about this topic, there was only one request for text URLs, and that came from Lincoln, who has some unknown problem with his PC/browser. |
