Horizontal scrolling is much slower than vertical scrolling.The most efficient way to read is when you don’t have to move and refocus your eyes. So you want to have a window set to a comfortable reading width, which for most people is less than a whole screen width (Palm/Treo/Portable PC users’ mileage will vary!). Then you can read a screenful, press the space bar, read another screenful. Very quickly. If the text scrolls off the right of the window, then you have to drag the horizontal scroll bar with a mouse. This wrecks speed reading. |
