Posted by Jeff H. on Thu Dec 14 03:24:01 2006, in response to Re: Flat wheel spots on the R46, posted by avid reader on Tue Dec 12 07:27:24 2006. Wheel circumference is measured using a special "tape measure" witha bunch of little clips to make sure the measurement is taken at a specific place on the wheel tread profile. The tape reads in terms of 1/8" increments in wheel diameter. As train dude said, there must be no more than 3 tape numbers difference between the smallest and the largest wheel on a truck. Wheels on same axle are most sensitive to diameter mismatch for what should be obvious reasons. One axle in the truck being larger than the other is less sensitive but it will cause the weight to be distributed unequally, and therefore one axle will be more likely to spin during motoring or slide during braking. |
