If a metro system has any above-ground operation, though, a major disadvantage of catenary comes into play: the damn things blow down in high winds!Which has the unfortunate consequence that it's not even safe to operate a diesel train through the site. Which is one of the reasons why the string falling down north of Milton Keynes the other day caused quite so much disruption (you lucky reverse commuter, Fytton!). |
