That ended in the late 1980's, when service was increased. #5 service was truncated at Bowling Green, and expanded #4 service ran in Brooklyn and express hours expanded to all day long. Lex express service increased nearly 50% than it was with the old pattern. The Brooklyn IRT had a strange service pattern before this change. It had express service during rush hours and weekends, but not middays. 2/3 trains used to be mobbed when no expresses were in operation, making Nevins St. dangerously crowded as people transferred for East Side trains. |
