Posted by Fytton on Fri Sep 15 08:58:42 2006, in response to Re: E-Plates Re: London Overground, posted by Rail Blue on Fri Sep 15 08:49:43 2006. "Dark day for aviation. Croydon Airport rules!"If London's main airport had been put - as it might have been - at Fairlop instead of Heathrow, it would have been tube-connected from day 1, and Fairlop would have gone from one of the tube's least-used stations to one of its most-used! If the growth of avaiation had been predicted, they might have thought about the idea of putting the airport on the eastern edge of town (so that the noise footprint lay in openb countryside), instead of the western edge, with the noise footprint right over the central area and the upper-class western suburbs like Richmond. That would have favoured Fairlop too. |
