You know what the sad thing is....since we were SO used to the subway looking like that in the 80's, we took photos of the stuff that was "nice". For example, since all the new trains will look like the dirty filthy graffitied trains in a week or two (that was the mentality back then, no one believed they could clean the system up), let me instead take a photo of that fresh new clean R42 now that it's all clean and rebuilt. There was no subtalk, so no one knew they old stuff was going.Same with the stations....why would I take a photo of these filthy gross graffitied, haven't been officially painted in 25 years stations when I can take a photo of the clean freshly painted ones....again, no one imagined they could combat graffiti at the stations...especially the elevated stations. It was a different era, and everyone's mentalities were much more pessimistic. That's why there's such an absense of photos from that era. |
