The W exists because the Broadway-BMT local requires 5 minute headways in Manhattan. If it weren't there, there would be 10-minute headways or the N would have to operate as a weekday Manhattan local and there still wouldn't be enough service to Whitehall St. Even if the W isn't crowded, the MTA (and I) think there should be 5-minute non-rush-hour headways on all local sections in Midtown and lower Manhattan. Now no more arguing, gentlemen. |
