New-build LRT uses 115 lb/yd rails; the LRVs are less durable than heavy-rail trains and carry fewer passengers; and especially over on Staten Island, you have the FRA to contend with. I do not have a "negative opinion" of light rail; but I do believe that it is not a replacement for heavy rail. |
