Furthermore, PATCO cars probably run at their maximum speeds a higher percentage of the time that the LIRR's cars. It's quite possible that the average speed of the PATCO cars is similar or higher than the LIRR's cars. As such, WillD makes a VALID comparison.2) Ridership does not "pound the heck" out of the cars. The cars running from point A to point B "pounds the heck" out of the cars no matter how many people are on-board. The weight of the cars on the trucks and frame is much greater than the weight of the passengers. The only things the passengers pound are the seats and floors, two items that are easily maintained and replaced. |
