Ronkonkoma is a populated area, but it's certainly not a "city" sort of area like Stamford or White Plains, and the property values around the station certainly don't refelect the fact that thousands upon thousands of people come through there, and have been for 20 years. In fact, the area (again, immediately around the station) is probably more depressed than before the electrification came. Not only do the commuters not use the stores that used to be there (and now vacant), all the cars and "no place to park" scenario stopped even locals from partonizing the businesses near the station, that's why that shopping center and stores near there are all vacant, or run down. |
