Whenever you feel like actually learning something instead of obsessing about nonsense, consult the archives of the Wall Street Journal or Barrons and look fr articles on railcar manufacturing. At one time Budd would have reported financial results but when they became a unit of Thyssen they would not have had to do that. A look at their contract wins, contract bids and percentage of revenue vs. profit from railcars is quite instructive. as Budd was leaving, Morrison-Knudsen thought maybe it had a way to make money on rebuilding subway cars. Not only could they not make money on it (even though they did a decent job rebuilding the cars) that adventure cost the CEO his job. |
