Taking rail with a ;ot of bags is more difficult than using a car service. That's true of any rail service except one where you can check your bags. But if your party has 2 bags per person, there isn't a problem so long as you have elevators and escalators to use. Plus, unlike the LIRR, which is as luggage-friendly as you could ask of a commuter line, the subway doesn't have a lot of ADA-compliant stations with elevators and ramps. That situation is improving, slowly. For example, the E is elevato equipped from its Jamaica Terminal to the QB line; Kew Gardens is not ADA compliant, but Roosevelt-Jackson Heights is and so is Queens Plaza (if they've finally turned on those elevators), Lexington-53rd (if they are done with that project) and Penn Station. So there are some limitations, no doubt. I personally like to travel light (one big bag and one little one I can carry; maybe a backpack too sometimes) so I can handle rail easily. If I carry more, I couldn't use rail at all. |
