It's become a situation of the tail wagging the dog. Because of their frequent photo stops, the MOD trips became almost as popular for chasers as for riders- which, in the view of some, led to their demise. Chasers who don't ride by extension don't contribute to the MOD coffers, which makes the trips cost-inefficient.I didn't even bother taking a camera on the three of the four MOD trips I took by myself. (I was persuaded into taking a camera on the fourth by my traveling companion.) For me the fun of a trip is riding the train, hearing the sounds, smelling the steel dust, hanging out with old friends and meeting new ones. It seems like having to jockey for position and compete with other photographers in tight spaces to catch a shot at JUST the right split second detracts from the enjoyment. |
