Thats generally what a good bred and trained Shepherd should do. Its wary of strangers but shoud not bite or attack. Oncwe it see's you are OK with the family your visiting it will be a good friend.
Many times I've had visitors like laywers, or gas repair and at first he'll check them out at then he jumps and plays with them.
