My, my, how quickly we forget!The original point of HTML was to divorce content from presentation. The viewer could then set the presentation to conform to his needs and preferences, to the extent possible on his device. Few viewers ever noticed, and meanwhile webmasters insisted on going after presentation. But the functionality is still there. Your browser (if it's a decent one) offers a Very Large Number of "skins," so to speak -- just fiddle with the background color, the foreground color, the font, etc. It seems a lot more rational for the website to not force a particular presentation than for it to offer a variety of different presentations to force. |
