Re: “Escape from Limbo”—A Very Strange 1953 PRR Safety Film

After freight traffic was rerouted, Don Nelson, one time president of Metro North arranged to buy the Beacon Line and had this pipe dream of running commuter service from Beacon to North White Plains via Harlem Line connection. That Idea went nowhere. Another proposal was to run a light rail service from East Fishkill to the Beacon Station. Once again, no sale.
To think before the freight service was discontinued on that line, welded rail was installed on the line within Beacon City limits to Glenham and the grade crossing at 6 lane Rt 9 was completely rebuilt at NYS taxpayer expense. Nobody knew at the time that Conrail was going to pull the pin on the service.
