A friend of mine (initials AC for those who know) was the ERO (emergency response officer) for this particular day. We were en route to Katz's deli for lunch when he got a call to respond to 14th St. and 1st Ave for a 12-9. To make a long story short, a guy, walking along the plat. with his girlfriend told her that he was going to jump in front of the next train and did. He was killed, body mangled with his buttocks facing forward making it impossible to remove his ID from his pants (but I digress). The train had only A TSS to supervise ATO operation. Needless to say, the train neither detected the jumper nor did it stop the train in time. Of course we are talking about late 2010, so things may have changed a bit. |
