Besides the D types, there was another car type that could have been assigned to the Culver and Franklin shuttles, the C types. After the Fulton St el was connected to the IND in 1956s, its main fleet, the C types became redundant. There was though of sending them the Myrtle, but their gap filling side skirts wouldn’t have cleared the stations between Bway and Bridge St and for some reason, no though was given to simply remove the skirts to clear the el stations. However, the Cs would have been a perfect fleet to assign the Franklin freeing up the ABs for use on other BMT lines. Initially, they couldn't have been used on Culver since there was still Culver subway service from Ditmas at the time and there might have been a question about using wooden cars into the underground 9th Ave lower level even though the gate cars ran there for years. Franklin would have been no problem and a few years later the TA tried Qs there but they had trouble with then upgrade towards Fulton and they were soon removed. |
