Posted by irtredbirdr33 on Tue Sep 1 08:38:13 2026 Tuscarora Almanac for September 1 1888 – from The Book of First Runs The Myrtle Avenue El is extended from Adams Street station to Sands Street station. 1919 – from The Book of First Runs The BMT Broadway subway is extended from 57th Street to Lexington Avenue. At first only one track is in service. The second track opens on October 30, 1919. 1928 from The Book of First Runs The first section of Philadelphia’s Broad Street Subway is opened between Olney Avenue and City Hall. 1940 – from The Book of First Runs On or about this date the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Company takes delivery of ten double ended streamlined trolley cars, numbered 1-10. These are the last trolley cars built by the J.G.Brill Company and are known as “Brilliners”. 1951 – from The Book of Last Runs This is the last day of streetcar service in Edmonton, Alberta. Note: Light rail service returned to Edmonton on April 20, 1978 with the opening of the Edmonton LRT Line. 1995 – from The Book of First Runs A heritage trolley line running along Market Street in San Francisco begins full time service. The line is designated as Rt. F Market Street and Wharves and uses PCC’s and vintage streetcars. 1997 – from The Book of First Runs On or about this date Connecticut Company trolley 1414 was leased to the Lake Compounce Theme Park. The car will operated there until 2024 when it was returned to Shore Line Trolley Museum. 2021 – from The Book of Wrecks Hurricane Ida struck the New York area on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 severely impacting rail operations. A major mudslide occurred on the Hudson Line near Warburton Avenue in Yonkers completely burying the two easternmost tracks, Nos. 1 and 3. At least two automobiles were included in the debris. Limited service was finally restored on September 7th using the two tracks closest to the river, Nos. 4 and 2. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
