The MTA did that because people dropped things into the gratings and that attracted rats and potentially started fires. The stairways were sealed to prevent vandals entering the closed stations.People don't realize that the existing grates let in rain and snow during inclement weather. The MTA could seal those up too. And so, you sweat! Better ways to seal could be found! |
