Re: Tuscarora Almanac for August 18

Posted by BMT Standard on Tue Aug 18 17:03:15 2026, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for August 18, posted by irtredbirdr33 on Tue Aug 18 08:50:33 2026.

Until 1954 the BMT had run express service on the Culver Line between 9th Avenue and Kings Highway during the rush hours in the direction of LIGHT traffic.

From 1931 until 1940, rush hour Culver-Nassau express trains terminated at Kings Highway and ran express on the line in the direction of light traffic. Service was implemented this way due to a shortage of steel cars. Additional local service was provided by Culver-5th Ave trains between Sands St. and Coney Island.
After the 5th Ave El was discontinued in 1940, rush hour Culver-Nassau express trains terminated at Kings Highway but ran express on the line in the direction of heavy traffic. Additional local service was provided by shuttle trains using wooden elevated cars between 9th Ave. and Coney Island.
