I've had an account with historicmapworks.com for many years. They have some Belcher Hyde maps. These were the predecessor of today's Sanborn property maps.The 1908 map shows that Broadway extended from Queens Blvd to be to Woodside Ave. It can be recognized by the presence of the BRT trolley tracks. The 1915 map shows that Broadway had been extended a couple of blocks from Woodside Ave to Penfold Ave, which was also called 21st St. It also indicates an unbuilt extension to Polk Ave (1 block north of Roosevelt) where it stopped at the NY Connecting RR. It picked up on the other side of the RR and existed for a couple of blocks to 8th St. It was then mapped but not built to Jackson Ave (today's Northern Blv). One point is that the next Corona Line station after Broadway was 25th St. That was the original planned name for the 82nd St station. I have seen maps that showed the station marked as 25th St. It's pretty easy to navigate NYC from old maps. Queens is the exception. Nobody would recognize Queens from any map published before the 1930's. |
