The extra cars required for this service were taken by converting the car lines out of Harvard Sq(uare) to trackless trolleys

That's a real socialistic "solution". Too much power concentrated in the hands of municipal government; happened in 1947.

And you only use abbreviations like "sq." if you do not have enough space for text such as on a roll sign, not in regular text.
